Five Orange Lead K-W United FC to PDL Championship

TUKWILA, Wash. – Five members of the Syracuse men's soccer team helped K-W United FC defeat New York Red Bulls U23, 4-3, in the title match of the 2015 PDL Championship presented by Nike on Sunday, Aug. 2. Senior Juuso Pasanen, junior Oyvind Alseth, redshirt junior Liam Callahan, sophomore Julian Buescher and incoming junior Ben Polk helped K-W United FC claim its first PDL title.

Polk, who led K-W United in scoring during the PDL regular season, scored in the sixth minute to give his squad the lead for good. Callahan started the goal-scoring play when he drew a free kick just outside the left corner of the box. He placed the free kick into the middle of the box where Polk redirected it into the back of the net.

With his team leading 3-1, Buescher crossed the ball to Pasanen, who redirected it past New York Red Bulls' goalkeeper Joe Ohaus to put K-W United up by three goals. New York Red Bulls responded with two straight goals, but K-W United held on for the win.

The victory in the finals capped a successful summer for the Orange as Polk and Alseth earned All-Division PDL honors.
