KANSAS CITY, Mo.- The Syracuse women's soccer team was recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for its academic excellence in the classroom, earning the NSCAA College Team Academic Award for the 2014-15 academic year.
As a team, the Orange posted a 3.21 Grade Point Average, earning the squad this prestigious award. Syracuse women's soccer is among 859 soccer teams (554 women) that was honored by the NSCAA with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
"I am proud of our team's accomplishments not only on the field, but also in the classroom," head coach Phil Wheddon said. "It speaks volumes on the type of student-athletes we have here at Syracuse."
Majority of the Orange were members of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll as well as the All-ACC Academic Team last season, representing the team in a first-class manner.
"Our team has adopted the first-class mentality on the training pitch, in our schedule and in the classroom," Wheddon said. "It takes a special kind of individual with high demands to be competitive athletically and academically."
Founded in 1941 and based in Kansas City, Mo., the NSCAA has grown into the world's largest soccer coaches' organization that serves members at every level of the game.
Syracuse travels to take on No. 2 North Carolina for its next contest, starting on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. Both live video and live stats can be accessed via Cuse.com.
