Syracuse defeats Pittsburgh for ninth straight time
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The RV/RV Syracuse University women's basketball team defeated Atlantic Coast Conference foe Pittsburgh, 71-48, on Thursday evening in the Carrier Dome. With the win, Syracuse has defeated Pittsburgh in each of their last nine meetings.

"We needed a win to keep this going," head coach Quentin Hillsman stated. "To Pittsburgh's credit, they played tough. Our kids responded tonight and did a good job. Once we started running in the second half, I thought the game changed."

The conference contest started out as a back-and-fourth affair. Syracuse (13-4, 3-1) and Pittsburgh (8-9, 0-4) were tied at 22-22 with 5:49 remaining in the second quarter. The Orange went on a 9-0 run and never looked back in its third league win of the season.

Syracuse excelled in its usual categories on Thursday night against the Panthers. Coming into the game, the Orange were forcing 25.38 turnovers per contest, which ranked third in the country. SU forced 26 turnovers on the night. In addition, the squad pulled down 18 offensive rebounds, one shy of its season average heading into the contest.

Junior center Briana Day recorded her third double-double of the 2015-16 season against Pittsburgh. Day registered a team-high 15 points and 10 rebounds. She also swatted two shots and has blocked 162 shots in her collegiate career, which ranks sixth in program history.

Redshirt senior guard Maggie Morrison finished in double-figures for the third time in the past six games. Morrison registered 12 points against the Panthers. The Millersville, Md. native also knocked down a 3-point field goal for the 10th straight game.

Syracuse will hit the road for its next contest when it takes on Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. in Lawrence Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem, N.C.
