Â
Syracuse is coming off a 71-48 victory against Pittsburgh on Jan. 14. Junior center Briana Day led the way against the Panthers, recording 15 points and 10 rebounds. It marked Day's third double-double of the 2015-16 season.
Â
Wake Forest enters Sunday afternoon's contest with a 9-8 overall record. In its last contest, the Demon Deacons suffered a 71-60 loss at Miami on Jan. 14. Junior forward Milan Quinn recorded her fifth double-double of the year against the Hurricanes, registering 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Â
Pressure Defense
Under head coach Quentin Hillsman, Syracuse has constantly applied pressure with its full-court pressure defense. The effects of this defense could not be more evident than its amount of steals per game. Currently, the Orange ranks first in the Atlantic Coast Conference and second in the country with 14.6 steals per game.
Â
Similar to last season, senior guard Cornelia Fondren and junior guard Alexis Peterson are leading the charge in that front. Fondren currently averages 2.82 steals per game, which ranks third in the conference and 25th nationally. Peterson averages 2.71 steals per contest, which ranks fourth in the league and 32nd in the country.
Â
In the season opener at Rhode Island on Nov. 13, Peterson put on one of the best defensive displays in program history. The Columbus, Ohio native recorded 10 steals on the night, setting a Syracuse single-game record. Fondren replicated Peterson's feat 11 games later against Howard on Dec. 30.
Â
Last Time Out
Syracuse team defeated Atlantic Coast Conference foe Pittsburgh, 71-48, on Jan. 14 in the Carrier Dome. With the win, Syracuse has defeated Pittsburgh in each of their last nine meetings.
Â
The conference contest started out as a back-and-fourth affair. Syracuse and Pittsburgh were tied at 22-22 with 5:49 remaining in the second quarter. The Orange went on a 9-0 run and never looked back in its third league win of the season.
Â
Syracuse excelled in its usual categories on Thursday night against the Panthers. Coming into the game, the Orange were forcing 25.38 turnovers per contest, which ranked third in the country. SU forced 26 turnovers on the night. In addition, the squad pulled down 18 offensive rebounds, one shy of its season average heading into the contest.
Â
Junior center Briana Day recorded her third double-double of the 2015-16 season against Pittsburgh. Day registered a team-high 15 points and 10 rebounds. She also swatted two shots and has blocked 162 shots in her collegiate career, which ranks sixth in program history.
