SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Ben Polk and Julian Buescher will represent Syracuse at the Major League Soccer (MLS) Combine that will be held Jan. 8-12 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. They are among the 60 players who will take part in three doubleheaders during the event in preparation for the MLS SuperDraft, which will take place on Thursday, January 14 in Baltimore, Md.
Â
Polk, who exhausted his NCAA eligibility at the end of the 2015 season, led the Orange with 28 points this season. He finished 18th in the nation in goals with 12 and 21st in points. In addition, he ranked 10th in game-winning goals (5). Polk was voted to the All-South Region First Team and earned the ACC Tournament MVP award after scoring both of Syracuse's goals in a 2-0 win at Clemson in the semifinals and its goal in a 1-0 victory at Notre Dame in the final match. His 12 goals tie him for 10th on Syracuse's single-season record list and are the third-highest total for a junior in program history.
Â
Buescher has signed a Generation Adidas contract with MLS and will forego his final two years of college eligibility. He was a semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Award, which is presented to the collegiate player of the year. Buescher was selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-America Second Team and was an All-South Region First Team honoree. In addition, he was selected to the All-ACC First Team as well as the ACC and NCAA All-Tournament Team. Buescher recorded a career-high 11 assists this season, which ranked eighth in the nation. He finished second on the team in scoring with 27 points (8g, 11a).
Â
Polk and Buescher helped Syracuse to a historical season in 2015. The Orange won its first ACC Tournament title and advanced to the College Cup for the first time in program history. Syracuse finished the season with a record of 16-5-4, just one win shy of the single-season school record.
