The two teams prepared for next weekend's regatta in Massachusetts
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women's rowing team met in-state foe Cornell in a scrimmage on Saturday morning on the Onondaga Lake Outlet in Liverpool, N.Y. Both teams used the event as preparation for next weekend's Head of the Charles in Cambridge, Mass.
"We are very lucky to have Cornell down the road," head coach Justin Moore stated. "They are a very good rowing program. Being an hour apart, it's ideal for the two programs to get together and competitively train."
The Orange and Big Red split their crews up on Saturday morning, with half competing on the buoy line in Onondaga Lake and the remaining racing on the Seneca River in preparation for next weekend's regatta in Massachusetts.
"We will get together and get up in the river, give the opportunity for the coxswains to run lines, make decisions about turns, make decisions about setting up to be passed or pass," added Moore. "It's a really good opportunity for the teams to experience some of what they will experience at the Head of the Charles next week."
Syracuse will compete in the world's largest two-day regatta, the Head of the Charles, from Saturday, Oct. 22 – Sunday, Oct. 23. Last year, the Orange placed sixth in the women's championship eight event, its best showing at the regatta.
