SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse senior Oyvind Alseth leads a group of four Orange who have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District men's soccer team. Alseth was joined on the team by sophomores Jonathan Hagman, Hendrik Hilpert and Miles Robinson. Syracuse was one of only five schools in the nation to have four All-District honorees.
Â
Alseth, who is a candidate for the 2016 Senior CLASS Award, is making his second consecutive appearance on the All-District squad. The finance major is a four-year starter for the Orange. He was an All-ACC Third Team selection in 2015 when he tied his career highs in points (11), goals (3) and assists (5). In addition, he earned a spot on the ACC All-Academic Team. This season, Alseth leads the squad with four assists and has recorded six points. The two-time team captain has been a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll each semester.
Â
Hagman has recorded career highs in every statistical category this season. He ranks fourth on the team in scoring (7 pts.) and is tied for third in goals (3). Two of his three goals have been game winners, including his goal in overtime against St. John's. The finance major is a two-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
Â
Hilpert has started in goal for the Orange in all 15 matches this season. He has recorded nine shutouts, which tie him for fourth place on Syracuse's single-season record list. He is tied for first in the ACC in shutouts and is fourth in goals-against average (0.57). Hilpert, a finance and economics major, is a two-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
Â
Robinson, a defender majoring in management, has helped Syracuse post nine shutouts this season. In addition, he has recorded career highs in every statistical category and is tied for the team lead in points (9) and goals (4). Robinson missed two matches this season after being called up to the U.S. U20 squad. He was a 2015 ACC All-Academic Team honoree and is a two-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
Â
The four will now be on the national ballot for the Academic All-America team. CoSIDA selects Academic All-America teams in 12 programs. The nominee must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in both undergraduate and graduate work. He/she must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen, redshirt freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
Â
No. 6 Syracuse will close out the regular season on Friday, Oct. 28 against No. 2 Wake Forest at 7 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium. Admission is free.
