The No. 4 Syracuse field hockey team (12-1, 4-1 ACC) collected its fifth-straight win on Sunday, downing Cornell (6-6) 5-0 to complete a weekend sweep.
The Orange used four second-half goals from four different scorers to surge past the Big Red on Sunday, with Roos Weers turning in another two goal effort, her second-straight game with multiple goals.
Weers started the Orange offensive attack nearly 20 minutes into play when she buried a goal on Syracuse's first corner attempt of the day. Emma Lamison served as the inserter, with Elaine Carey playing the stick stop to set up a clean look for Weers.
SU drew six corners while allowing just one on the day.
After taking a 1-0 lead into halftime, Syracuse upped its offensive attack in the second 35 minutes.
Seven minutes after the break, Weers again finished a corner with Lamison and Carey getting the assists. Weers again went high, shooting into the upper corner of the cage to give SU a 2-0 lead.
Fifteen minutes later it was Emma Tufts who recorded her first goal of the season. After a Lies Lagerweij shot was deflected, Tufts was in position to jam her rebound home for the third tally.
'Cuse struck again three minutes later, when Emilie Bruijn picked up her first collegiate goal. Bruijn ripped a hard shot from the top of the circle that made its way past Cornell goalkeeper Kelly Johnson for the score.
Johnson made all-six Cornell saves, before being lifted for Maddie Henry with seven minutes to play. Henry surrendered the final Orange goal. Regan Spencer answered the only challenge she faced on the day, preserving the shutout.
The final Syracuse tally came with 5:38 remaining in regulation, when Laura Hurff broke into the circle and rifled a hard shot into the top-left corner to give the final 5-0 result.
Next, Syracuse will play its ACC finale at Virginia on Saturday. That game is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
