‘Cuse ends season at Notre Dame
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse volleyball team was defeated by Notre Dame in four sets (25-16, 13-25, 25-16, 25-11) on Friday afternoon at Purcell Pavilion in South Bend, Ind. The game marks the 15th four-set match for the Orange this season.
'Cuse finished the 2016 campaign with a 7-23 overall record, while competing to a 6-14 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The Fighting Irish closed out the regular season with a 22-10 overall record, while finishing 13-7 in conference play.
For the second-consecutive game, Anastasiya Gorelina led the Orange attack, tallying 12 kills on the game. The outside hitter was the only Orange player to hit in double-digits.
Amber Witherspoon dominated the net for Syracuse, recording a career-high 12 blocks, including one solo stop and 11 assisted blocks at the net.
As a team, the Orange out-blocked the Fighting Irish, 19.0-7.0.
The trio of Kendra Lukacs, Bella Sand and Jalissa Trotter had double-digit dig marks, as Lukacs and Sand had 19 apiece and Trotter had 18.
Syracuse struggled to find a momentum in the first set, falling short of the Fighting Irish, 25-16.
The Orange rallied in the second set thanks to a 16-2 run to sit atop UND, 19-7. Syracuse finished out the set with an even 6-6 run to claim game two, 25-13.
Despite the second-set rally, Notre Dame capitalized on a 25-16 victory in set three and a 25-11 win in set four to claim the four-set regular season finale.
