- The Syracuse track and field teams head to the ACC Championships this weekend in Boston, Mass. with the Orange occupying top times in a number of events.
- On the men's side, Syracuse has a top-10 qualifier in the conference in the high jump (Jabari Butler, second), long jump (Reggie Morton, fifth), 60-meter dash (Winston Lee, fifth), the 60-meter hurdles (Freddie Crittenden III, first; Richard Floyd, third; David Gilstrap, fifth; Chevis Armstead, sixth), the mile (Justyn Knight, first; Joel Hubbard, second; Adam Palamar, third; Philo Germano, fourth), the 3000-meters (Knight, first; Colin Bennie, fifth; Kevyn Hoyos, eighth), the 5000-meters (Bennie, second; Germano, sixth; Hoyos, eighth) and own the sixth-best qualifying times in the distance medley relay.
- The women have a top-10 competitor in the triple jump (Regine Hunter, seventh), 60-meter dash (Shaina Harrison, second; Kadejhia Sellers, 10th), the 60-meter hurdles (Tia Thevenin, seventh), the 200-meter dash (Sellers, sixth), the 400-meters (Sellers, sixth), the mile (Sydney Leiher, third), and the 4x400-meter relay (sixth)
Last Week at the Marc Deneault Invitational:
-Overall, the Syracuse teams were victorious in 4 events: men's 60-meter hurdles, women's 60-meter hurdles, men's high jump and women's triple jump.
-In the men's 60-meter hurdles, Freddie Crittenden III took first place with a time of 7.80 seconds in the final. Following Crittenden, Richard Floyd took fifth (8.16 seconds), Chevis Armstead ran to sixth (8.21 seconds), and Powel Deslandes took eighth (8.54 seconds) for the Orange. In the women's event, Danielle Delgado finished first well ahead of the competition with a time of 8.72 seconds.
-In the jumps, Jabari Butler won the men's high jump, clearing 2.08 meters. He was the sole athlete at the meet to break the two-meter barrier. Behind him, Randall Johnson finished fifth, clearing 1.99 meters. For the women, Regine Hunter took first place with a distance of 12.10 meters in the triple jump.
-In both the men's and women's mile, Syracuse had a slew of runners within the top ten. Griff Molino led the men's team, finishing second with a time of 4:14.35. Immediately following, Juris Silenieks took third (4:14.80), Joseph Kush finished fourth (4:15.11), and Simon Smith took fifth (4:15.75). Andrew Paladino also completed the race, taking 10th with a time of 4:26.13. For the women's, Mary Malone led the Orange taking third with a time of 5:07.07. Emily Nist took fourth (5:08.54), followed by Fiona Hendry (8th/5:16.04), Bridget Twomey (9th/5:17.04), and Chelsie Pennello (10th/5.21.95).
Last Year at the ACC Championships:
-Highlighting last year's ACC Championship for the Orange, Shaina Harrison took first place in the 60-meter dash (7.31 seconds), beating the previous school record and claiming the first ever ACC indoor track and field hold medal for the Syracuse Women's program. Other medal-winners for Syracuse were Martin Hehir who took silver (7:53.15) in the 3000-meter dash and Regine Hunter who claimed bronze (12.71 meters) in the women's triple jump.
Syracuse will get the action underway during Thursday's distance medley relay.
