SYRACUSE, N.Y.-Â After signing five players for next season, head coach Phil Wheddon and the Syracuse women's soccer team are adding one more player to the 2016 roster, introducing newcomer Erin McCann to the incoming class.Â
According to TopDrawerSoccer, the Orange rank 18th among incoming recruiting classes, which is exactly one spot ahead of the 2015 National Champion Penn State Nittany Lions. McCann will join a class that includes the Maine Gatorade Player of the Year, two All-Americans and All-State and All-Area selections.Â
The Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. native recently helped guide Palos Verdes High School to a 22-4-3 overall record in the Bay League. At the conclusion of both her junior and senior seasons, McCann was named to the All-Bay League First Team as a defender.
With McCann's presence on the backline, the Sea Kings finished the 2015-16 season winning the CIF Division II Bay League for the second year running and also claimed the CIF Southern Section Division II Title for the first time in 33 years.Â
McCann will join a Syracuse defense that allowed 1.26 goals a year ago. The Orange finished the 2015 season with a 7-11-1 overall record that included a 3-7-0 record in the highly-touted Atlantic Coast Conference.Â
