Orange Picked Third in Atlantic Division in ACC Preseason Coaches Poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Syracuse has been picked to finish third in the ACC men's soccer Atlantic Division in a preseason vote by the league's head coaches. The Orange, which are coming off the most successful season in school history, garnered 50 points in the poll.

National finalist Clemson was chosen as the preseason favorite to win the Atlantic Division. The Tigers received six first-place votes and 64 points. Wake Forest also received six first-place votes and totaled 62 points for second place. Boston College was fourth in the poll with 34 points, followed by Louisville (28 pts.) and NC State (14 pts.).

North Carolina finished first in the Coastal Division standings and was picked as the preseason overall champion. The Tar Heels received five votes to win the league title, while Clemson had three and Wake Forest one.

Syracuse, the defending ACC Tournament champion, is ranked No. 6 in the preseason NSCAA poll. The Orange advanced to the College Cup for the first time in program history last season and posted a record of 16-5-4, finishing just one win shy of the school single-season record.

This weekend, Syracuse concludes its preseason schedule with exhibition matches against Michigan State on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. and Ohio State on Saturday, Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. Both contests will be played in Fort Wayne, Ind. The 2016 campaign officially begins on Friday, Aug. 26 when the Orange host Massachusetts in the first round of the Central New York Classic at 7 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium.
