The No. 2 Syracuse field hockey team used four unanswered goals to overcome an early deficit, defeating No. 6 Maryland 4-1 on Sunday in Philadelphia.

Four different players found the back of the net for the Orange, while goalkeeper Regan Spencer made five saves, with the only blemish coming as the Terps scored on a penalty stroke three minutes into action.

The Orange got their scoring started in the 30th minute off a penalty corner. Serra Degnan capitalized off an assist from Lies Lagerweij to knot the game at one and give 'Cuse the momentum heading into the locker room – something they'd continue out of the break.

Just 1:45 into the second half, Elaine Carey scored her second goal in as many games, when she buried an open look from 15 yards out. Liz Sack set up the play and was credited with an assist. The Orange got on the board again 14 minutes later when Jennifer Bleakney found the back of the cage.

The final Orange tally would come on another corner. Nijsje Venrooy, who started the play as the inserter, finished a pass from Roos Weers to open up a three-goal lead. Syracuse scored on two of its three corners. Maryland earned four corners in the game.

The Orange also out-shot the Terps 15-14 in the game.

The win is the 22nd-straight regular season win for the Orange, who will next play No. 13 Liberty this Friday at Hofstra. That game is scheduled to begin at Noon. The first Syracuse home matchup will be on Friday, Sept. 9 at 3:30 p.m. where the team will unveil the 2015 NCAA Championship banner.
