After opening the season with wins over Temple and No. 6 Maryland, the Syracuse field hockey team continues its road trip on Saturday with a matchup against No. 13 Liberty before taking on Hofstra on Sunday.
'Cuse vs. Liberty
- Saturday's meeting marks the first between Syracuse and Liberty in program history.
'Cuse at Hofstra
- Syracuse and Hofstra hold a 16-game series history dating back to Oct. 4, 1980 in a game that the Orange won, 2-0.
- Â The Orange hold the lead in the overall series, sporting a 14-2 record against the Pride, including victories in nine of the last 10 meetings between the sides.
- Syracuse took the last game against Hofstra by a score of 6-2 on Sep. 28, 2014. Then-freshmen Laura Hurff and Annalena Ulbrich both found the back of the net for the Orange during the match.
- Of the current Orange roster, juniors Hurff, Ulbrich, and Erin Gillingham, as well as seniors Serra Degnan and Liz Sack have seen action with Hofstra in the past.
Last Time Out
- The Orange had a strong start to the season last Friday, with a resounding 8-0 win over Temple and followed it up with a 4-1 win over No. 6 Maryland.
- Syracuse has yet to allow a goal during regular action this season, with the lone goal given up coming off a penalty stroke.
Bleakney and Spencer Honored by ACC
- Sophomore forward Jen Bleakney and senior goalkeeper Regan Spencer earned ACC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors respectively to start the 2016 campaign.
- Bleakney was tabbed as ACC Offensive Player of the Week following her three-goal weekend to start the season. She scored her first-two collegiate goals against Temple and followed that up with a goal against No. 6 Maryland to continue the momentum.
- Spencer recorded a shutout in her first collegiate start vs. Temple and allowed just one goal while making five saves against No. 6 Maryland.
Steep Competition
- The No. 2 Orange play 10 of the other-19 teams ranked in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Preseason Poll this season, including six conference games against the ever difficult ACC.
- Syracuse played 16 ranked opponents in 2015 including postseason play, finishing the year 15-1 in those contests.
Milestone Victory
- The Orange's win over Temple in the season opener was the 500th win in program history.
- The 2016 team is the 44th team in Syracuse history.
Next Up
- Following this weekend, Syracuse will face Boston College in the home and ACC Opener on Friday, Sept. 9.
- The game will be the unveiling of the NCAA Championship banner from last season.
- It is scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m. and admission is free.
