SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's soccer team has reported to campus and the preparation for the 2016 season has begun.
The Orange take the pitch on Aug. 19 against Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y. to kick off the season. The first home game of the season is Aug. 21 against Delaware at 1 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium. Admission to all regular-season home matches is free.
Syracuse is looking to make a splash this year, bringing in the No. 18-ranked recruiting class in the country. The seven-member class consists of the Maine Gatorade Player of the Year, two All-Americans and All-State and All-Area selections.
'Cuse returns 62 percent of its scoring offense from last season with leading scorers Alex Lamontagne and Stephanie Skilton back as upperclassmen. Goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan will be back between the posts for the Orange after leading the ACC last season with 81 saves.
In the preseason NSCAA coaches poll, seven ACC teams were ranked in the Top 25, including Florida State at the top of the poll. Syracuse plays six of the seven ranked teams and hosts four of those teams, including No. 1 Florida State on Oct. 9. The Seminoles were also picked to win the league by the ACC coaches. Syracuse was picked to finish 12th.
