Syracuse track and field alum Katie Zaferes finished 18th in the Olympic triathlon on Saturday.
Zaferes, who spent the majority of the race in the lead pack and was third coming out of the swim portion, fell back later in the race during the final 10k of the 40k bike portion and run. She finished less than two minutes behind gold medalist Gwen Jorgensen, also of the United States.
Flings Owusu-Agyapong ang Ghana Take 14th in 4x100-Meter Relay

Syracuse track and field alum Flings Owusu-Agyapong finished her Olympic competitions with a 14th-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay.Â
Owusu-Agyapong, who carried her nation's flag into the Opening Ceremony, previously had competed in the 100-meter dash, taking 28th in a time of 11.43 seconds. In Thursday's relay, her team finished in 43.37 seconds.
There's one Syracuse track alum left to compete in the Rio games, with Katie Zaferes competing in the triathlon on Saturday.
'Melo, Boeheim, Hopkins & USA Basketball Roll into Semis
Wednesday, Aug. 17
Syracuse legend Carmelo Anthony scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds as USA Basketball cruised to a 105-78 win over Argentina in the Olympic men's basketball quarterfinals on Wednesday. After falling behind early, Team USA went on a 24-2 run to take control and never looked back.
Argentina was the last team to beat the United States in Olympic competition in 2004.
'Melo, along with USA coaches Jim Boeheim and Mike Hopkins, will face Spain in the semifinals on Friday at 2:30 p.m.

USA Basketball Faces Argentina in Quarterfinals
Wednesday, Aug. 17
Despite some close games, USA Basketball enters the elimination round as the only undefeated team at 5-0. Carmelo Anthony, Jim Boeheim, Mike Hopkins and the rest of Team USA face Argentina in the quarterfinals on Wednesday at 5:45 p.m.
The game will be televised on NBC Sports Network. It can also be watched on NBC Sports Live Extra and the NBC Sports Live Extra App.Â

Manley's Medal Dreams Dashed in Quarters
Monday, Aug. 15
A late push wasn't enough to overcome a 2-0 first quarter deficit, and Alyssa Manley and the USA Field Hockey team had its medal hopes dashed by Germany on Monday in the Olympic quarterfinal.
The Germans scored two first quarter goals, with the U.S. answering one with four minutes to play in regulation and had even more chances after, but couldn't convert the equalizer.
Despite not reaching the medal round, it was still an impressive run for the Americans, which won a program record four games this year in Pool B, eventually earning the No. 2 seed out of the group stage after finishing last in 2012.

USA Basketball Hangs on to Defeat France
Saturday, Aug. 13
Team USA finished off preliminary play with an unblemished, 5-0 record, thanks to a Sunday victory against France, 100-97.
The Americans built a double-digit advantage in the game before the French rallied in the fourth quarter. A 3-pointer from Carmelo Anthony put Team USA ahead 98-90. A basket from DeMarcus Cousins had the Americans leading 100-90 with 1:25 left. France scored the final seven points of the game.

Osazuwa Places 29th in Heptahlon
Saturday, Aug. 13
Uhunoma Osazuwa completed her second Olympics on Saturday, by placing 29th in the heptahlon at the Rio 2016 games.Â
The Orange alum got to as high as 17th place on day one of the event, but faded on the second day after a disqualification in the 800-meters.
She's one-of-three Orange track stars at this year's games, with Flings Owusu-Agyapong having already raced in the 100-meters and still to take on the 4x100-meter relay, and Katie Zaferes entering next weekend's triathlon as a medal hopeful.
Mastracci Places 5th in Rio
Saturday, Aug. 13
 Former Syracuse University women's rower Natalie Mastracci '13and the Canadian coxed eight crew finished in fifth place at the 2016 Olympic Games on Saturday morning.

The Canadian boat covered the 2,000-meter course in 6:06.04, less than two seconds behind the third-place Romanian crew. The United States boat took home the gold medal, finishing with a time of 6:01.49.

Manley and USA Field Hockey Earn No. 2 seed out of group
Saturday, Aug. 13
Flings They're no longer perfect, but their first goal of Rio has been achieved.
Orange alum Alyssa Manley and USA Field Hockey advanced out of Group B with the No. 2 overall seed after falling 2-1 to Great Britain on Saturday. The Americans will next take on Germany at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, with the winner guaranteeing themselves a medal round game opportunity.

Owusu-Agyapong takes 28th in 100-meter dash
Friday, Aug. 12
Flings Owusu-Agyapong crossed the line in 11.43 seconds in Friday's 100-meter dash quarterfinal round.
The Orange alum finished 28th overall, missing advancing to Saturday's semifinal by 0.04 seconds. Also in action on Friday was Uhunoma Osazuwa in the heptathlon. She currently sits in 20th place with three events to go.
Melo Leads USA Past Serbia
Friday, Aug. 12
Team USA (4-0) held off a late charge by Serbia (1-3) and remained unbeaten in preliminary play at the Rio Olympics with a 94-91 victory.
Six Americans scored in double figures, including Kyrie Irving (15), DeAndre Jordan (13), Carmelo Anthony (12), Kevin Durant (12), and Paul George (12). Team USA posted 27 assists on 27 baskets.

Orange Track Stars Begin Olympic Action Friday
Friday, Aug. 12
A pair of former Orange track standouts will begin their Olympic competitions on Friday, with Flings Owusu-Agyapong opening competition in the first round of the 100-meter dash Friday night and Uhunoma Osazuwa opening with the first-four heptathlon events on Friday morning.
Osazuwa, a competitor for Nigeria, will take on the 100-meter hurdles (8:35 a.m.), high jump (9:50 a.m.), shot put (7:35 p.m.) and 200-meters (9:05 p.m.), before concluding with the long jump, javelin and 800-meters tomorrow.
Owusu-Agyapong, who carried Ghana's flag into the Opening Ceremony, will be in one-of-eight seeded heats tonight (heat yet to be determined) beginning at 9:40 p.m., with the top-24 racers advancing to Saturday's semifinal.Â
Katie Zaferes is the third Orange track alum in Rio, but she won't begin her quest for a medal in the triathlon for another week.
Manley and USA Field Hockey Stay Perfect

Four games into the 2016 Olympics and perfection is still intact for Alyssa Manley and her USA field hockey squad.
The U.S. team defeated India 3-0 in another dominant win to move to 4-0 so far this Oylmpics and putting themselves in great position to go for a medal. The Americans had already secured a quarterfinal berth as of Wednesday's win, but Thursday's victory means that the U.S. can finish no worse than second in the group stage, with a win or a draw in Saturday's final group stage match giving the U.S. the top seed out of Group B.Â

Mastracci and Canada Advance to Final

Natalie Mastracci '13Â and the Canadian women's coxed eight crew placed first in its repêchage at the 2016 Olympic Games on Thursday morning.

The former Syracuse University women's rower and her teammates finished in 6:28.07, defeating their closest opponent by more than five seconds. With the victory, Canada advances to Saturday morning's final and a chance at the Olympic gold medal. The race will begin at 10:04 a.m. EST.

'Melo Pours in 31, Breaks USA Scoring Record

Carmelo Anthony scored a team-best 31 points, including nine 3-pointers, to lead Team USA past Australia, 98-88, at the Rio Olympics.Â
Anthony became the all-time leading scorer in U.S. Olympic history with the offensive explosion (293 points). He passed David Robinson (270 points) and LeBron James (273 points) to establish the new standard.
Anthony was 11-of-21 from the field, including 9-of-15 on 3-point attempts. He missed hisonly free-throw try and grabbed eight rebounds.

Manley and USA Field Hockey Rout Japan
Wednesday, Aug. 10
Alyssa Manley and her USA field hockey squad continued its domination of Group B play on Wednesday, blowing out Japan 6-1 to continue its stronghold over the group.
The U.S. scored in the first-15 seconds of play and never looked back, rollong to a 6-1 win behind Katie Bam's hat trick.
Manley and the U.S. squad will be in action again Thursday when they face India. The U.S. has alreaday secured a bid to the quarterfinal round, but a win against India would guarantee one of the top-two seeds out of the group stage.

Gbinije Misses Nigeria's Game Due to Illness

Michael Gbinije did not play in the Nigeria men's basketball team's 89-80 loss vs. Lithuania on Tuesday. Nigeria Basketball announced that he missed the game due to illness and his status for Wednesday's 6 p.m. game vs. Colombia is still in question.Â
Gbinije scored 6 points in 29 minutes of play in Nigeria's opening game.

'Melo Scores 14, Passes Jordan on Olympic Scoring List
Monday, Aug. 8
After a first quarter that saw Team USA and Venezuela tied at 18, the USA men's basketball team pulled away for a 113-69 victory in pool play at the 2016 Olympics. The victory improved the squad's record to 2-0. Paul George led Team USA with 20 points. Jimmy Butler had 17 points, Kevin Durant 16 and Carmelo Anthony and DeAndre Jordan each had 14 points. Jordan added a squad-best nine boards.
Anthony's 14 points give him 262 points in Olympic competition, passing Michael Jordan (258) for third on USA's all-time list. 'Melo is competing in his fourth Olympic Games. He has two gold medals and one bronze.
Team USA returns to action Wednesday when it faces Australia in a 6 p.m. tip-off on NBC.

Manley and USA Field Hockey Down Australia
Monday, Aug. 8
Orange star Alyssa Manley and the USA field hockey team opened up the Olympics with an upset win over Argentina on Saturday and proved it wasn't a fluke on Monday morning when the Americans took down world No. 3 Australia in its second Group B match of the Olympics.

Manley saw action early and often in the contest, with the U.S. jumping out to a 2-0 lead once again. Michelle Vittese scored in the 25th minute off a penalty corner before Caitlin Van Sickle finished a Vitesse rebound in the 43rd minute to make it a two-goal advantage.
The Aussies would get one back late in the third, but Team USA rallied defensively to maintain the margin and take control of Group B for the moment with the maximum six points. Great Britain enters its contest at 5 p.m. with India as the lone other unbeaten squad in Group B through less than two games of play.

Mastracci and Canada Place Third in Heat
Monday, Aug. 8
Former Syracuse University women's rower Natalie Mastracci '13 and the Canadian coxed eight crew finished in third place in its preliminary heat at the 2016 Olympic Games on Monday morning.

Mastracci and her teammates covered the 2,000-meter course in 6:12.44, which was less than a half of a second behind second-place New Zealand. The boat finished with the fourth-best time among the seven competing crews, as well.

Gbinije Makes Debut with Nigeria
Sunday, Aug. 7
Syracuse men's basketball alum Michael Gbinije made his Olympic debut on Sunday with the Nigerian National Team. Gbinije had six points, four rebounds and three assists in 28:48 in Nigeria's 94-66 loss vs. Argentina. Despite the loss, Gbinije provided perhaps the game's biggest highlights with a huge dunk (watch in the tweet below).
Gbinije and Nigeria return to action on Tuesday when they take on Lithuania in a 6 p.m. tip-off.

The USA Men's Basketball had an impressive debut in the 2016 Olympics, defeating China, 119-62, in Rio.Â
Kevin Durant had 26 points, Demarcus Cousins had 17 points and Paul George came off the bench to add 15. Former Syracuse standout Carmelo Anthony had nine points and seven rebounds for the Americans.

Manley and USA Field Hockey Upset Argentina in Opener
Saturday, Aug. 6
Alyssa Manley and the U.S. field hockey team took down world No. 2 and Group B favorite Argentina in the opening game of the 2016 Olympics on Saturday.
Manley got on the field nearly immediately into the USA back five after the game had begun, when the Argentinians were controlling much of the possession. The Americans eventually settled down, scoring a pair of second-half goals and holding off a late attack to win 2-1 in the Group B opening match.

#CuseinRio Officially Underway
Friday, August 5
The Games of the 31st Olympiad officially began on Friday with the Opening Ceremony in Rio de Janeiro. Many of the nine current and former Orange student-athletes and coaches participating in the Games were part of the spectacle.
One of the highlights of the evening was former Syracuse track and field star Flings Owusu-Agyapong having the honor of serving as the flag bearer for Ghana.

Of course one of the big moments was when Carmelo Anthony and his fellow stars with USA Basketball entered the stadium. Â
