'Cuse vs. Wake Forest
-Â In a budding rivalry between ACC-opponents, No. 1 Syracuse and No. 11 Wake Forest have evenly split their series history, with each side boasting three wins against the other.
-Â The Demon Deacons took the first matchup of the series, defeating the Orange 3-2 on Nov. 21, 2008 in the NCAA Semifinals. The game was decided in overtime.
-Â Last season?s meeting between the two sides pitted the No. 1 Orange against the No. 6 Demon Deacons. Finding the back of the net five times in the first half, the Orange dominated the game from start to finish, winning 6-0. Graduate student Alma Fenne led the way with three goals, while junior Emma Lamison added one goal and two assists. Sophomore Erin Gillingham and freshman Roos Weers also added goals for Syracuse.
Orange in the Polls
-Â Having moved up to the top spot in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Poll following four wins to start the season, the undefeated Orange has maintained its position in the poll for the second straight week.
-Â Syracuse replaced defending ACC-Champion North Carolina atop the poll.
-Â It?s the fourth season since 2008 where Syracuse has been ranked No. 1 in at least one poll.
-Â The Orange has been in the top-five of 15-straight polls and top-20 of 91-straight polls.
A Number of Weapons
- The Orange attack features nine players who have scored at least one goal and ten players who have recorded at least one assist.
- Leading the way, Lies Lagerweij?s seven goals rank third in the ACC. He goals per game (1.17) rank third in the ACC and 12th in the country.
-Â Roos Weers has been the chief helper for the Orange goal-scorers, ranking third in the ACC and ffth in the country for assists per game (1.00).
Offensive Leaders
-Â The Orange ranks either second or third in the ACC in each of the major offensive categories (scoring margin, scoring average, goals, shots, assists), and first in goals off penalty corners (8).
-Â Syracuse ranks inside the nation?s top 10 for all of the above categories as well, including fourth in goals scored (26) and fifth in scoring margin (3.31).
A Strong Defense
-Â Despite being fourth in saves and saves per game, the Orange rank first in the ACC in save percentage (.806), second in goals against average (0.99) and first in defensive saves (2).
- Syracuse?s back-line ranks fourth nationally in goals against average and eighth nationally in save percentage.
Staying Hot
- The Orange have won ten-straight including both last year?s NCAA Tournament run and the start of this season.
-Â Syracuse has defeated four ranked teams so far this season, including both No. 18 Boston College and No. 14 Stanford at home last weekend as well as beating then No. 6 Maryland and No. 13 Liberty earlier on in the year.
Steep Competition
- Syracuse?s 2016 schedule features nine other teams sporting a Top 20 ranking in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Poll.
- All seven ACC teams, including the Orange, are named on the poll. The conference has the top three teams in the country, as well as five of the top 11.
- Last year, the Orange played in 16 matches against ranked opponents, recording a perfect 10-0 record in such matches during the regular season, and a 15-1 record overall.
