Syracuse defeats No. 23/22 NC State, 85-75
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior guard Alexis Peterson notched a school-record 45 points as No. 24 Syracuse overcame a 13-point deficit to defeat No. 23/22 NC State, 85-75, on Thursday night in the Carrier Dome.
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
Syracuse (13-5) knotted the score, 54-54, with 2:06 remaining in the third quarter, rallying from a 12-point halftime deficit. NC State (13-5) responded with an 8-0 run to close the frame, including a buzzer-beating 3-point field goal.
The Orange would outscore the Wolfpack, 31-13, in the fourth quarter behind 21 points from Peterson. The Columbus, Ohio native was a perfect 3-of-3 from the field, including two 3-point field goals, and 13-for-14 from the free-throw line in the final frame.

"Just an amazing performance by Alexis in the second half. You know, we just needed her to take the game over. Just a great team win, great effort, and Alexis Peterson was just amazing. Sometimes, you have to have a player come in and be amazing and that's what she was."
OF NOTE
Peterson notched a Carrier Dome record, for men or women, 45 points against NC State. It also marked the fourth-highest scoring total by any NCAA Division I player this season. Peterson set a Syracuse single-game record with 17 free throws made, as well.
The senior guard moves into fifth place on the Orange all-time scoring list with 1,638 career points. She is just three points shy of passing Brianna Butler for fourth place on the SU all-time scoring list.
Peterson and redshirt senior guard Brittney Sykes combined for 62 points on the night. Coming into the game, the two averaged a combined 41.8 points a game, the nation's top-scoring backcourt.
Senior center Briana Day continues to inch closer to second place on the Syracuse all-time rebounds list. The Raleigh, N.C. native collected five boards, which puts her at 967 career rebounds. She now needs four more to pass Kayla Alexander (970, 2010-13).
The Orange's 31-point fourth quarter is the second-highest mark that the team has put up in one quarter this season. Syracuse had 39 points in the fourth quarter against Rhode Island on Nov. 11, 2016.
