Four-game win streak snapped in Atlanta
ATLANTA – The No. 24 Syracuse women's basketball suffered its sixth loss of the 2016-17 campaign, a 75-66 decision at Georgia Tech on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
With the score knotted at 58-58 with 5:24 remaining in regulation, Georgia Tech (13-4) closed the game on a 17-8 run. Syracuse (13-6) only converted one field goal attempt in the final five minutes of the game, a lay-up from senior guard Alexis Peterson.
The Orange trailed by 14 points with 6:39 left in the third quarter and fought their way back into the game. Redshirt senior guard Brittney Sykes drilled a 3-point field goal with 7:40 left in the contest to put the squad ahead, but that would be the team's last lead.
Q'S TAKE
"When you're not shooting the ball well, you have to compete, get the 50-50 balls, and make the tough plays. We didn't do that. There's no way to make that any different. Ultimately, that's on me and I have to do a better job of getting them ready to play."
OF NOTE
Peterson continued her ascension up the program's all-time scoring list at Georgia Tech on Sunday afternoon. With her 29-point effort against the Yellow Jackets, she passed Brianna Butler (1,640, 2013-16) and Erica Morrow (1,658, 2008-11) and now ranks third in school history with 1,667 career points.
Sykes notched 24 points against the Yellow Jackets. It marked her ninth 20-point of the 2016-17 season and 20th of her collegiate career. The Newark, N.J. native and Peterson, the nation's top-scoring backcourt, combined for 53 points.
Senior center Briana Day notched 10 boards, moving into second place on the Syracuse all-time rebounds list. Day has 977 rebounds in her career.
Senior forward Isabella Slim pulled down 14 rebounds, setting a career high, on the day. It marked the third time in her collegiate career that she had tallied at least 10 boards in a game.
