SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Miles Robinson and sophomore Kamal Miller are spending the next 10 days in the men's national Under-20 camps for the United States and Canada, respectively. The camps support both countries' preparations for the 2017 CONCACAF Men's Under-20 Championship, which will be held in San Jose, Costa Rica in February.
Â
Robinson is one of 24 players invited to the U.S. January Camp held at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Carson, Calif. from Jan. 15-23. The team, coached by Tab Ramos, will have one more training camp in Orlando from Jan. 31-Feb. 10 before its first match of the CONCACAF Championship against Panama on Feb. 18.
Â
Robinson was the second overall pick and the first draft pick in the history of Atlanta United FC, an expansion team that begins play in 2017, at last week's Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft. He was a semifinalist for the 2016 Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Award and was a NSCAA first-team All-American. Robinson earned the ACC Defensive Player of the Year award and was voted to the All-ACC First Team. The defender posted a career-high nine points on four goals and one assist this season.
Â
Miller is one of 24 players in Canada's camp, which runs from Jan. 12-22. A group of 20 players will be chosen to travel to Panama for matches on January 19 and 21. Team Canada will have one more training camp from Jan. 27 – Feb. 4 in Mexico prior to the CONCACAF Championship. Canada's initial group opponents for the tournament are Honduras (Feb. 17), Mexico (Feb. 20) and Antigua & Barbuda (Feb. 23).
Â
Miller started all 20 matches in 2016 on defense and helped the Orange record 11 shutouts. In addition, he recorded six points on two goals and two assists.
Â
From the CONCACAF Men's Under-20 Championship, four nations will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, scheduled for May 20 – June 11 in South Korea.
