SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse head men's soccer coach Ian McIntyre has announced that Hugo Delhommelle (Rennes, France) and Djimon Johnson (Bridgeport, Conn.) have joined the program. The duo is on campus and participating in spring practice.
Â
Delhommelle scored 13 goals and had 14 assists for Lander University as he led the team to the 2015 and 2016 NSCAA Division II National Tournament. The 2016 NSCAA All-American helped Reading United to the 2016 PDL Division title. Prior to college, Delhommelle represented Stade Rennaus Football Club in France. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
Â
"Hugo has the technical ability, creativity and experience to make an immediate impact here at Syracuse University," McIntyre said. "He is an intelligent, dynamic player with the ability to deliver the important final pass. We look forward to quickly integrating Hugo into our young side."
Â
Johnson, who will be a freshman next fall, led South Kent School (18-1) to the 2016 Top Drawer Soccer National Championship and the NEP-SAC Class B title under the guidance of coach Owen Finberg. Johnson also played for Beachside Soccer Club and coach Mickey Kydes as the team progressed to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy playoffs.
Â
"Djimon is an athletic, technical player who will fit in very well with our style of play and complement our current players," McIntyre said. "He is a talented player with a very bright future who will embrace the challenge of succeeding here in the Atlantic Coast Conference."
Â
Syracuse finished the 2016 season with a record of 12-4-4. The Orange earned the No. 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16 for the third consecutive season.
