'Cuse Hosts Providence for Weekend Series

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse ice hockey team hosts the Providence Friars for a weekend series on Oct. 13 and 14. The Orange are looking for their first win of the 2017-18 season as they enter the weekend 0-3-1 this year.
LAST TIME OUT
The Orange hosted No. 1 Wisconsin at Tennity for the first home series of the year. Syracuse battled Wisconsin to the end of game one but the Badgers emerged with the 1-0 victory. Sophomore Kelli Rowswell recorded the first Orange goal of the season on a power-play opportunity in game two, while freshman Emma Polaski scored her first collegiate goal, but the Orange came up short, 5-2 to the Badgers.
SERIES HISTORY
Syracuse and Providence have met six times before in program history with the Orange holding the 3-2-1 advantage over the Friars. 'Cuse has outscored Providence 16-11 in the six meetings and came out victorious the last time the teams met, posting a 4-0 shutout of the Friars in 2015. Forward Megan Quinn recorded a pair of assists in the shutout victory, while Stephanie Grossi notched an assist of her own.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS
The Friars have posted a 3-1-0 mark so far this season and are on cusp of cracking the USCHO.com Poll Top 10 after receiving votes this week. Providence has outscored its opponents 16-7 so far this season and is coming off a series split with Quinnipiac. Junior Christina Putigna paces Providence with eight points thus far in the season (two goals and six assists).
'CUSE VS. HOCKEY EAST
The Orange have faced six of the nine active Hockey East teams and, in 39 total games, have posted a 15-17-7 mark. The games have always been tight with shots slightly favoring the Hockey East opponents, 112-109. The most recent outing against a Hockey East team came against Boston College on Jan. 4 of this year, when the Eagles took a 4-3 victory.
UP NEXT
Syracuse continues its nine-game home stand with a pair of games against Northeastern on Oct. 20 and 21. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday. Admission to all home games at Tennity Ice Pavilion is free.
