van der Velde earns ACC Defensive Player of the Week

Freshman goalkeeper Borg van der Velde led the Syracuse defense to tie a program record with their 11th shutout of the season, van der Velde earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
The freshman from Ede, Netherlands, van der Velde made four saves in the Orange's regular season finale to secure the win. She has started all-17 games this season, leading the team to 11 shutouts, tied with the 1993 team for most in program history.
van der Velde and the Orange return to action on Thursday at Louisville in the opening round of the ACC Tournament. 'Cuse and the Cardinals will square off at 4 p.m. in a game that will be televised on ACC Network Extra and RSN.
