SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse ice hockey team hosts the No. 1 Wisconsin Badgers on Oct. 6 and 7 for the first home series of the 2017-18 campaign. The weekend matchup with Wisconsin kicks off a nine-game home stand during which the Orange will face three ranked opponents.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Orange took Bemidji State to a tie to open the 2017-18 season but came up just short in game two of the series to start the year 0-1-1. Abbey Miller tallied her program-leading 10th career shutout in the season opener after recording 30 saves in goal.
Â
10 YEARS IN THE MAKING
The Orange are entering their 10th season in action, having accumulated a 137-143-36 record during their time in the CHA. Head coach Paul Flanagan has been at the helm of the Orange for all 10 seasons, leading Syracuse to six conference Finals appearances, including three consecutive appearances from 2015-2017.
Â
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the third and fourth meeting between the Orange and the Badgers in program history. Wisconsin holds the 2-0 advantage after posting a pair of shutouts over the Orange in Syracuse's first year in action (2008-09). The No. 2 Badgers outscored 'Cuse 11-0 in those two games, including an 8-0 victory in game two of the series.
Â
SCOUTING THE BADGERS
Wisconsin comes in at No. 1 in the latest USCHO.com poll (Oct. 2) after posting a 4-0 mark to start the season. The Badgers have outscored their opponents 16-2 in that four-game span and have recorded two shutouts thus far in the 2017-18 campaign. Brette Pettet was named WCHA Rookie of the Week after netting a hat trick against Mercyhurst.
Â
CUSE VS. WCHA
The Orange have faced five of the seven active WCHA members (Bemidji State, Minnesota, Ohio State, St. Cloud and Wisconsin). Overall, 'Cuse holds a 3-15 record against WCHA teams with a pair of wins coming over former WCHA member North Dakota and the only other victory coming against St. Cloud.
Â
UP NEXT
Syracuse's hosts Providence on Oct. 13 and 14 as part of the nine-game home stand. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. for both games and admission to all home games is free.
