At Gate B10 of the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, moments before the boarding doors closed of their flight back from the ACC Tournament, the Syracuse field hockey team found its fate – they're going back to the NCAA Tournament for the 10th year in a row.
Â
"We are thankful to have this opportunity to start a new season," said head coach Ange Bradley. "We are very excited and looking forward to traveling back to Michigan. Ann Arbor is a very special place for us."
The Orange earned an at large bid and will face Big Ten Champion Michigan in Ann Arbor in the first round, in what will be a battle with two of the nation's top defenses – who've combined for 24 shutouts on the season.
Bracket
The other two teams in the Orange's pod are Louisville and Northwestern, with the winners of those games playing on Sunday in Ann Arbor for a trip to the Final Four.
Â
In Syracuse's last trip to Ocker field, the team won the first NCAA Championship in program history in 2015. First round games are set for Saturday, with Syracuse vs. Michgan set to get underway at 11:30 a.m. Sunday's NCAA quarterfinal will be at 2 p.m.
The selection is the 13th total for the Orange, with 10 of those 13 coming in the 11-year tenure of head coach Ange Bradley. Syracuse has reached four final fours, two NCAA Championship games and won one national title in those tournaments. 'Cuse has also reached the quarterfinals in three-straight NCAA Tournaments.
