SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse head men's soccer coach Ian McIntyre has announced the addition of Sondre Norheim to his 2017 recruiting class on Monday, Feb. 13. Norheim will join the program next fall.
Â
Sondre Norheim – Bryne, Norway - Bryne vidaregaande skule
Norheim is an athletic center back currently representing Egersunds IK in the Obosligaen after competing for Bryne in 2016. He is a product of the Viking FK academy and has been capped seven times for the Norway U18 team.
Â
"Sondre is a talented, accomplished player who will immediately enhance our defensive unit," McIntyre said. "He is an athletic, composed young man with an extremely bright future ahead of him here at Syracuse. I am very excited to see Sondre compete for our team in the Fall."
Â
Norheim will help solidify the defense that lost several players to graduation. In addition, 2016 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, Miles Robinson, signed a Generation adidas contract and was drafted second overall in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.
Â
"With the graduation of a number of key defenders and Miles signing with Atlanta United (MLS), it was obviously important to address the center back position with this class," McIntyre said. "We believe that with the addition of Sondre, Justin (Earle) and Dylan (McDonald) we have attracted three outstanding young men who will embrace the challenge of competing here in the ACC."Â Â Â Â Â Â
Â
Norheim joins the recruiting class that was ranked No. 6 in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer. It includes two members of Top Drawer Soccer's Top 100, as well as Hugo Delhommelle and Djimon Johnson, who enrolled at Syracuse in January.
