Orange Adds One to Recruiting Class

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse head men's soccer coach Ian McIntyre announced an addition to his 2017 recruiting class on Friday, Feb. 3. Matthew Pickard of Pendleton, N.Y will join the Orange next fall.

Pickard is a member of the Empire United U18 team of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Pickard led the Empire United Rochester team to the 2014 NYW State Championship and was a member of the NYW ODP team.

"Matt is a tenacious, technical defender and he plays with an intensity and a contagious enthusiasm that I love in players," McIntyre said. "He has the versatility and the tactical maturity to play multiple positions for us in the fall. Matt is another player that I feel has a tremendously high ceiling and he will embrace the challenges that lay ahead."

Pickard joins the recruiting class that was ranked No. 6 in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer. It includes two members of Top Drawer Soccer's Top 100, as well as Hugo Delhommelle and Djimon Johnson, who enrolled at Syracuse in January.
