No. 10 Orange Comeback Comes Up Short at No. 7 Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – No. 10/11 Syracuse cut a first-half seven-goal deficit down to three but could get no closer in a 16-11 loss to No. 7/8 Princeton on Wednesday, March 29. Freshman Emily Hawryschuk tied her career high with four points to lead the Orange offense.

HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED
After Syracuse (8-4) recorded the first goal of the game to take an early lead, Princeton outscored the Orange, 9-1, over a span of nearly 13 minutes to build a seven-goal advantage. Olivia Hompe scored three of her game-high seven goals during the run. The Orange responded with four consecutive goals, three of which came on player-advantage situations, to cut the deficit three, 9-6. However, the Tigers took advantage of an Orange turnover and scored with 25 seconds on the clock to take a 10-6 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

Syracuse twice got within three of Princeton in the second half, but a 4-1 Tigers' scoring run put the game out of reach as they recorded the 16-11 victory.

OF NOTE
Junior Riley Donahue and Hawryschuk had three goals apiece. With her performance, Donahue increased her career goal total to 97.

Syracuse returns to ACC play on Sunday, April 2 when it travels to Durham, N.C to face Duke at 1 p.m. The Orange are back home on Sunday, April 9 against ACC foe Virginia Tech at 1 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium.
