
WNBA Draft Training Camps Kick Off

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – With the start of the 2017 Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) season less than three weeks away, all 12 teams began their respective training camps on Sunday. Four former members of the Syracuse women's basketball program are in training camps.
Kayla Alexander '13, the Orange's all-time leading scorer, begins her fifth year with the San Antonio Stars. Alexander recently helped CJM Bourges Basket to the 2017 Coupe de France championship title. The Milton, Ontario native has averaged 10.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per game during the 2016-17 season.
Briana Day, the program's all-time leader in rebounds, joins Alexander in San Antonio's training camp. Day signed a training camp contract with the Stars on April 17. The Raleigh, N.C. product finished her collegiate career as the only player in Syracuse women's basketball history with at least 1,000 points and 1,000 boards.
Alexis Peterson, the Orange's leader in career assists, reported to the Seattle Storm's training camp. Peterson was selected 15th overall in the 2017 WNBA Draft on April 13. The Columbus, Ohio native was recognized by the Associated Press, espnW, and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) as an All-American following her senior season.
Brittney Sykes, the winningest player in program history, joined the Atlanta Dream after being picked seventh overall, the highest Syracuse selection in history, in the 2017 WNBA Draft. The Newark, N.J. product earned 2017 All-Atlantic Coast Conference First Team honors, her third all-conference accolade of her career.
