Syracuse placed sixth, as a team, at the Clemson Invite
GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the second straight week and third time this season, the Syracuse women's rowing first varsity eight boat has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Week, as announced on Tuesday.
It marks the first time that a boat has earned ACC Crew of the Week accolades in consecutive weeks and three times in a single season since Virginia's first varsity eight crew did so during the 2014 campaign.
The Syracuse first varsity eight boat finished in fourth place in the grand final of the 2017 Clemson Invite on April 23. The Orange covered the 2,000-meter course at Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C., site of the 2017 ACC Championship, in 6:23.803. In the process, Syracuse defeated the top crews from No. 10 Virginia, No. 11 Wisconsin, and No. 20 Indiana.
Sophomore coxswain Rebecca Spraggins, sophomore Lauren Richards, senior Alexandra Gill, senior Harriet Taylor, sophomore Rachael Caldwell, senior Shannon McCann, freshman Lucy Pearce, senior Saydee McQuay, and junior Ashley Johnson comprised the boat.
The Orange will complete their 2017 regular season slate on Saturday when they take on No. 6 Princeton, No. 12 Iowa, and Pennsylvania on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J.
