Syracuse, N.Y. -- Eight former Orange men's soccer athletes are competing in the professional ranks in both Major League Soccer (MLS) and the United Soccer League (USL). Alex Bono, Oyvind Alseth, Julian Buescher, Miles Robinson, and Patrice Bernier are on MLS rosters. In addition, Ben Polk, Sergio Camargo and Chris Nanco are currently assigned to USL clubs.
Bono (2012-15) is in his third year within the Toronto FC organization. Toronto currently owns the best record in the MLS with an overall mark of 11-3-5. Bono's record mining the net is 10-3-3. The Baldwinsville native ranks fourth in the MLS in goals against average (1.13). The first-ever Orange player to sign a Generation adidas contract, Bono spent his first two seasons between Toronto FC and Toronto FC II.
Alseth (2013-16) made his MLS debut for Toronto FC at FC Dallas on July 1. He was a member of the starting lineup in that match and recorded one shot. Alseth was also part of the starting 11 in Toronto FC's 3-1 victory at Orlando City SC on July 5. He also appeared in 13 games, notching 11 starts for Toronto FC II of the USL. In 1,016 minutes of action, the Trondheim, Norway native recorded three shots.

Buescher (2014-15), who is in his second year with DC United, has seen action in six matches, starting two. In 171 minutes of play, Buescher has recorded four shots and one on goal. A Generation adidas player, Buescher played in 20 matches last season, but has seen limited action due to an injury-plagued preseason.

In his first season with Atlanta United FC, Robinson (2015-16) has yet to see action in MLS play. However, he started against Charleston Battery (USL) in the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on June 14, which marked his first appearance with the club. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, Robinson joined Bono and Buescher as the third Orange player to sign a Generation adidas contract. He was named the 2016 ACC Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-American by the NSCAA.

Bernier (1998-99) is in his final professional season playing for the Montreal Impact. The midfielder has played in 13 matches, starting 10 for the Impact. The former MLS All-Star has tallied four assists and nine shots in 906 minutes of play for the Impact this season.

Polk (2015), in his second year of professional soccer, is playing for Orlando City B. Polk has appeared in four games, starting two, and has fired off one shot. The forward from Banbury, UK was the 20th overall selection in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft by the Portland Timbers. After playing one season with Portland Timbers 2, Polk signed with Orlando City B in December.

Joining Alseth with Toronto FC II is first-year midfielder Camargo (2016). He has appeared in 10 games, including seven starts for the club. The Cucuta, Colombia native has played a total 642 minutes, tallying one goal.Â

Nanco (2013-16) is suiting for Bethlehem Steel FC, which rank fifth in the Eastern Conference standings with an overall mark of 7-6-2. Nanco has netted two goals on seven shots in 560 minutes of play. The first-year forward has appeared in 11 matches, notching seven starts. Â
