Fox and Mangakahia join the Orange women's basketball program
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Guards Raven Fox and Tiana Mangakahia have officially joined the Syracuse women's basketball program, head coach Quentin Hillsman announced on Friday. Both Fox and Mangakahia will be eligible to suit up for the Orange beginning the 2017-18 season.
"Both Raven and Tiana add incredible depth to an already deep recruiting class," said Hillsman. "Raven is an exceptional athlete with the ability to score from all spots on the floor and can guard multiple positions defensively. Tiana is a point guard with the ability to distribute the ball at a high level. She has a high basketball IQ and has proven it at the highest level of competition."
A 5-8 guard from Bladensburg, Md., Fox most recently attended Gulf Coast State College in Florida. In two years at Gulf Coast State College, she played in 60 games and averaged 7.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per contest. Fox will have two seasons of eligibility at Syracuse.
Fox is the granddaughter of former Buffalo Braves player Harold Fox. Harold played two seasons at Jacksonville University before being drafted in the second round of the 1972 NBA Draft by Buffalo. He played 10 games for the Braves, averaging 3.1 points and 1.0 assists per outing.
A 5-5 guard from Meadowbrook, Australia, Mangakahia was last at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. Hutchinson Community College finished with a 33-2 overall record during the 2016-17 campaign, winning the Region VI championship. She will have three seasons of eligibility with the Orange.
Mangakahia represented Australia at the 2013 FIBA U19 World Cup in Lithuania, helping the team take home a bronze medal. It marked the country's best finish in the biennial competition since a second-place showing in 1997.
