SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women's basketball team is set to face Miami on Thursday night from the Watsco Center in Coral Gables at 7 p.m. The game will air on RSN (YES Network in New York State) and can be heard on Syracuse IMG Sports Radio Network with Brian Higgins on the call.
The Orange was handed a loss on the road last Sunday at NC State and look for their first Atlantic Coast Conference road win of the season against the Hurricanes. Overall 'Cuse is 14-4 this year and sits 2-3 in ACC play. Tiana Mangakahia, the nation's leader in assists (182) and assists per game (10.1) also leads Syracuse in scoring with 17.7 points per game. Miranda Drummond (17.0) and Gabrielle Cooper (10.1) also average double figures in scoring this season while Drummond ranks 31st in 3-pointers made and Cooper is 30th in 3-point attempts in the country. Digna Strautmane leads the team in blocks with 42, which leads the ACC and is 21st in the nation.
Miami is 12-6 overall and 1-3 in the league and enters Thursday's game. The Hurricanes earned their first ACC road win of the season on Sunday with a 72-60 victory at Clemson. Mykea Gray paces the Canes with 12.8 points per game. She's shooting 39.5 percent from the field in 23.6 minutes per game. Erykah Davenport is second in scoring with 10.8 points per game and leads the team with 8.7 rebounds per game. Miami is averaging 70.6 points per game and shooting 41.9 percent from the floor collectively while holding opponents to 37.5 percent.
SERIES HISTORY
Thursday will be the 28th matchup between the two since the inaugural meeting on Dec. 30, 1988. The Orange have faced the Canes 13 times in Coral Gables and are 4-9 during that span. Overall, Miami leads the series 19-8. Since head coach Quentin Hillsman took over the Syracuse program in 2006, the Orange are 3-1 against the Hurricanes.
