'Cuse Opens 2018 Season Against Niagara

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's tennis team opens the 2018 campaign with a doubleheader on Jan. 21, taking on Niagara at 11 a.m. before scrimmaging Le Moyne at 3 p.m. The Orange look to bring their success from the fall into the spring season.
"We had a great week of practice," said head coach Younes Limam. The ladies have been working hard and are very excited to start competing."
Junior Gabriela Knutson finished the fall season ranked No. 17 in the final Oracle/ITA National Singles Rankings, becoming the highest-ranked tennis player in Syracuse program history. She is coming off the Oracle/ITA National Fall Championships where she went 3-2 against the best women's tennis players in the nation.
Sophomore Miranda Ramirez also received a nod from the ITA, coming in at No. 16 in the Doubles Rankings, alongside Knutson.
This will be the first match of the season for Niagara as well. The Purple Eagles posted three straight wins in the fall season before competing in the ITA Regional in Philadelphia. Niagara is led by Stella Peisakhova, who made her third trip to the ITA Regionals in the fall to compete in the singles competition.
