SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse University Women's Basketball returns to the Carrier Dome to face off against Virginia Tech on Feb. 1, in search of extending its home win streak to 12 games. The Orange are coming off a 75-57 victory over Boston College lase Sunday. 'Cuse is looking to continue its three-game win streak and move to 12-0 at home with a win over the Hokies. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be available to stream on the ACC Network Extra.
Syracuse (17-5, 5-4 in the Atlantic Coast Conference) is currently one of only 10 teams left remaining in NCAA Division I women's basketball that are 11-0 or better at home this season.
ACC Rookie of the Week Digna Strautmane paced the Orange over BC. She scored a career-high 25-points on 10-for-26 shooting from the field, including going 5-for-9 from 3-point range. Tiana Mangakahia had her second-straight nine assists game as she continues to lead the nation in assists (221) and assists per game (10.0). The Australia native added 19 points and seven rebounds in Syracuse's first ACC road win of the season.
'Cuse is 5-4 in the league through nine games. The Orange lead the conference in 3-point field goals made (9.5 per game) and are fourth in free throw percentage (.741), assists (16.2 per game), turnover margin (+3.2), and assist/turnover ratio (1.1). Tiana Mangakahia and Miranda Drummond are both inside the top-10 in scoring while Strautmane is tied for 16th in rebounding (6.9 per game).
Virginia Tech is looking to rebound from a close 82-78 loss to Miami at home. The Hurricanes were up 17 at halftime before Virginia Tech began a furious comeback led by Rachel Camp's season-high 25 points. VT cut the lead to two before Miami forced a turnover and drained six free throws to get the win. Juniors Chanette Hicks and Regan Magarity lead the Hokie attack, with Chanette averaging 17 points per game while Magarity averages 14 points and is 37th in the nation with 9.6-rebounds per game. Sunday's loss saw Magarity become the seventh Hokie ever to score 1,000 career points and tally 700 rebounds.
SERIES HISTORY
Thursday will be the 11th meeting between the Orange and the Hokies. Syracuse holds a 6-4 series edge and has won the last four meetings by a combined 72 points.
Last year's 82-72 Orange victory saw the star backcourt of Alexis Peterson and Brittney Sykes combine for 53 points, 12 assists and five steals, while forward Briana Day added 21 points and 11 rebounds. Sidney Cook led the Hokie attack, tallying 22 points and six rebounds.
'Cuse is 4-0 against Virginia Tech since head coach Quentin Hillsman took over in 2006.
