
Carney, Cooper Named to U.S. U19 Spring Roster

SPARKS, Md. – Syracuse freshmen Megan Carney and Sarah Cooper have been named to the U.S. Women's U19 team for the Spring Premiere to be held Jan. 25-27 at Stanford University. U.S. Lacrosse announced the 34-player roster on Friday, Dec. 7.

Carney was named an Under Armour All-American after recording 92 goals and 31 assists as a high school senior. The McKinney, Texas native also earned All-America honors from U.S. Lacrosse as a sophomore, junior and senior. Carney set McKinney lacrosse career records for goals (288), assists (104) and ground balls (96).

Cooper was named the top incoming freshman defender in the nation by Inside Lacrosse in its 2018 Recruiting Issue. She anchored the Notre Dame Prep (Md.) defense last season, helping the squad to the IAAM "A" championship. She earned Varsity Sports Network's Defensive Player of the Year accolades and was named to the ILWomen's All-High School squad and the USA Today All-USA Girls Lacrosse First Team.

The U.S. U19 team is one of six teams to compete in the Spring Premiere, joining the U.S. senior national team, England, Japan, Fresno State and Stanford. Four former Orange, including Becca Block '13, Liz Hogan '11, Kayla Treanor '16 and Michelle Tumolo '13 will play for the U.S. senior squad at the event.

The U.S. is building towards next summer's Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women's U19 World Championship, which will be played in Peterborough, Canada Aug. 1-10, 2019.
