
Orange Trio Named to ACC All-Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Syracuse juniors Jonathan Hagman and Hendrik Hilpert and sophomore Johannes Pieles have been named to the All-ACC Academic Men's Soccer Team, which was announced on Thursday, Feb. 1. All three earn the honor for the second consecutive year.

Hagman started every match and tied his career highs in points (11) and goals (5) in 2017. He ranked second on the team in both categories. Hagman tallied the Orange's first goal of the season and had a string of three straight matches with a goal. The finance major earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in 2016.

Hilpert played in all 18 matches, making 17 starts this season. He recorded a career-high 60 saves and posted two shutouts. Hilpert was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week after posting a career-best nine saves in a 0-0 tie at No. 1 Wake Forest, the second-highest scoring team in the nation. He ranks fourth on Syracuse's career leader list for wins (28) and shutouts (19). Hilpert, an economics and finance major, earned CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team honors and was a member of the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.

Pieles led the Orange in scoring (16 pts.) and goals (8) and ranked second in assists (4) in 2017. He posted career highs in points and goals and tied his career high in assists. Pieles had a career-high two assists against Northwestern and recorded at least one point in four of the final five games of the season. The sport management major earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
