'Cuse Topped by VT, 2-1

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Syracuse (12-7, 2-1 ACC) came up short in a pitcher's duel at Virginia Tech (11-12, 1-2 ACC), 2-1, Saturday afternoon in the finale of a three-game series.
Sophomore Alexa Romero drops to 8-4 on the season after the defeat. In 4.1 innings, she allowed two runs (one unearned) on two hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Freshman Miranda Hearn pitched 1.2 hitless innings with a walk and a strikeout.
Junior Bryce Holmgren finished 1-for-1 with two walks. Freshman Gabby Teran went 1-for-3 with an RBI and junior Alicia Hansen added a hit and a run. Hearn was 1-for-2 with a walk.
Carrie Eberle pitched a complete game for the Hokies, conceding one run on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
Emma Strouth hit a solo homerun in the second inning to give Virginia Tech the lead.
A two-out rally for Syracuse in the top of the fifth tied the game at one. Hansen hit a single and stole second base. Holmgren walked and Teran followed with an RBI single up the middle to drive in Hansen.
The Hokies retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth when a runner on third scored off a wild pitch.
Of Note
Holmgren reached base for the 41st consecutive game. She also has a team-high hitting streak of seven games.
Romero matched totaled a season-high of 10.0 innings of hitless work in the circle dating back to her start against Monmouth on Mar. 4.

Syracuse plays at Elon on Wednesday, March 14 at 6 p.m.
