'Cuse Faces Virginia in ACC Road Series

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Syracuse (13-7, 2-1 ACC) opens a three-game series at Virginia (8-17, 0-3 ACC) on Friday, Mar. 16 at 6 p.m. Game two is Saturday at 1 p.m. and the series finale is Sunday at noon.

For Starters
- Syracuse defeated Elon, 4-2, on Tuesday and has won five of its last six contests.

- ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week, Alexa Romero, struck out a career-high 13 batters in the win over the Phoenix. The sophomore tossed her second no-hitter of 2018 in the 2-0 victory over Virginia Tech on Mar. 9. She struck out nine and walked two.

- Junior Bryce Holmgren leads the Orange with eight doubles, 19 RBI and is batting .500 in 2018. She has reached base in 42-straight games, a program record. Holmgren has an eight-game hitting streak.

- Senior Sammy Fernandez is 12 hits shy from tying and 13 away from becoming the program's all-time leader in base hits. Fernandez currently has 194 career hits and 23 in 2018.

- Junior Alicia Hansen, Fernandez and Holmgren have all started at least 70 consecutive games for the Orange. Hansen enters the game with 80 straight starts and Fernandez and Holmgren have each started 70 in a row. Freshman Gabby Teran is the only other player on the roster to start all 20 games this year.

Scouting the Cavaliers
- Virginia was swept by Georgia Tech last weekend in its ACC opening series.

- Allison Davis has nine of Virginia's 25 homeruns this season. In addition, Davis has a team-best .464 batting average with a triple, eight doubles, 28 RBI and 28 runs. Hayley Busby bats .333 with a homer, three triples, seven doubles, 15 RBI and 10 runs.

- Lacy Smith and Erika Osherow have combined to start 23-of-25 games for Virginia this season. Smith is 4-5 with a 3.98 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 68.2 innings and Osherow is 4-7 with a 5.25 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 60 innings.

- Joanna Hardin enters her second season as the head coach of the Virginia Cavaliers. In her first year at the helm, Hardin led the Cavaliers back to the ACC Tournament for the first time in three seasons.

On The Orange Horizon
Syracuse caps its season-opening road trip when it travels to Florida State for a three-game series with the defending ACC champions starting on Friday, Mar. 23.
