TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Meghan King gave up two hits and struck out six in six innings of work to lead No. 14/12 Florida State (25-6, 5-0 ACC) to a 6-0 win over Syracuse (15-10, 4-4 ACC) Saturday afternoon.
The teams will complete the three-game series tomorrow with a scheduled first pitch at 11 a.m.
Senior AnnaMarie Gatti dropped to 4-4 on the year for the Orange. She pitched four innings and allowed five runs on six hits with a strikeout and eight walks. Freshman Miranda Hearn surrendered a run in two innings of work and struck out two.
Senior Rachel Burkhardt and junior Alicia Hansen each produced a base hit.
How it was Decided
Hansen reached on a fielding error and stole second with two outs in the top of the first but 'Cuse was unable to drive her in. The Seminoles brought home three runs in the bottom half of the inning off a two-RBI double and an RBI groundout.
In the third, Florida State had a runner on first with no outs and hit a ball deep to center field. Hansen was able to track down the ball, make the catch and hit the cutoff to turn a highlight-reel double-play after crashing into the wall.
A two-RBI single in the fourth and a sacrifice fly in the fifth brought in the other three runs for the Seminoles.
Syracuse broke up the no-hitter in the sixth with single from Burkhardt and Hansen.
Of Note
Junior Bryce Holmgren's program-best 46 game reached base streak comes to an end. The streak dated back to a game at Boston College on Apr. 2, 2017.
The Seminoles outhit the Orange 6-2 and left 10 runners on base, compared to two for Syracuse.
