'Cuse Concludes Season-Opening Road Trip at Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Syracuse (15-11) concludes its 28-game season-opening road trip with a doubleheader at Army West Point on Wednesday, Mar. 28. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 2 p.m.

For Starters
- Orange head coach Mike Bosch is two wins away from eclipsing 600 career victories. Bosch posted a 525-236-2 record at Iowa Lakes Community College and is 73-56 at 'Cuse.
- Junior Bryce Holmgren leads the ACC and ranks 17th nationally with a .468 batting average.
- Sophomore pitcher Alexa Romero threw her third no-hitter of 2018 in a 12-0 victory over Virginia on Mar. 16. She struck out nine and walked two.
- Senior Sammy Fernandez is 11 hits away from becoming Syracuse's all-time base hit leader. Fernandez has 25 hits this season and 196 in her career. Tanya Rose is the current leader with 206 base knocks.
- Syracuse leads the nation with 0.54 triples per game. The Orange have 14 triples on the year coming from six different student-athletes. After not recording any triples in her first two seasons, junior Alicia Hansen leads the team with four. Sophomore Toni Martin and freshman Gabby Teran have each produced three.
- 'Cuse holds a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series. This is the first time that the two schools meet since a doubleheader in 2000.
Scouting the Black Knights
- Army enters the matchup with a 10-16 record and a 2-1 mark in the Patriot League. The Black Knights took 2-of-3 games from Bucknell over the weekend.
- Taylor Drayton leads Army with a .340 batting average. Amelia Trotter (.300) is only other student-athlete hitting over .300 and Emily Ballesteros has a team-high 13 RBI. Ballesteros is the only member of the Black Knights to start in all 26 games.
- Courtney Springman is the leader of the Army pitching staff. She's made 19 appearances with 15 starts and is 5-10 with a 1.83 ERA and 85 strikeouts. Macey Newbary has made six starts in nine appearances and flaunts a 3-1 record with a 4.71 ERA and 18 strikeouts.
-Michelle DePolo is in her ninth season as Army's head coach. DePolo helped lead the Black Knights to their third consecutive Patriot League Tournament appearance in 2017.
