'Cuse Hosts BC for Home Opener

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After 28 straight games away from home, Syracuse (16-12, 4-5 ACC) kicks off its 2018 home schedule with a three-game series against Boston College at Skytop Softball Stadium.
The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 31 starting at 1 p.m. The third game of the weekend will take place on Sunday, April 1 at noon.
All games will be broadcasted on ACC Network Extra. Fans can follow the live stats on cuse.com.
For Starters
- Sophomore pitcher Alexa Romero struck out a career-high 14 batters in a 4-1 win at Army West Point on Wednesday. Romero leads the ACC and ranks seventh nationally with 157 strikeouts and ranks first and ninth, respectively, with 10.4 strikeouts per seven innings.
- Orange head coach Mike Bosch is one win away from eclipsing 600 career victories. Bosch posted a 525-236-2 record at Iowa Lakes Community College and is 75-57 at 'Cuse.
- Junior Bryce Holmgren leads the ACC with a .547 on-base percentage and a .434 batting average.
- Senior Sammy Fernandez is 8 hits away from becoming Syracuse's all-time base hit leader. Fernandez has 28 hits this season and 199 in her career. Tanya Rose is the current leader with 206 base knocks.
- 'Cuse is 12-6 all-time in home openers and has won two of its last three.
- The Orange and the Eagles are even in the all-time series, with each program winning 10 games.
Scouting the Eagles
- Boston College enters the matchup with a 13-15 overall record and a 3-3 mark in the ACC. The Eagles defeated Boston University on Wednesday and swept Virginia in a three-game series last weekend.
- Chloe Sharabba (.363) is the lone Boston College batter hitting above .300. Cami Sellers team-highs of three homeruns and 12 RBI. Six different Eagles have started in all 28 games this season.
- Jessica Dreswick has appeared in 24 games with 19 starts for BC and has a 9-8 record with a save. In 114.2 innings, she's posted a 2.38 ERA with 108 strikeouts. Allyson Frei has made the other nine starts for the Eagles and has a 4-7 record with a 1.96 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 78.2 innings.
-Ashley Obrest is in her seventh season as head coach of Boston College. During the 2017 season BC earned a 31-22 (14-9 ACC) record. This record gave the Eagles their third 30-win season in four years and the 14 league wins tied for a program-high.
