BLACKSBURG, Va. – Syracuse (10-6) opens up ACC play with a three-game series at Virginia Tech (10-10). The teams will play a double-header on Friday, Mar. 9 starting at 1 p.m. and a single game on Saturday, Mar. 10 at noon.

For Starters
- 'Cuse posted a 3-1 record at the Patriot Classic last weekend, going 2-0 against George Mason and splitting a pair of games with Monmouth.
- The Orange are 8-9 all-time in conference play openers and 1-3 in ACC starters.
- Syracuse earned its 500th win in program history with a 6-1 victory over Monmouth on Sunday, Mar. 4. The Orange have a 501-437-1 all-time record.
- Junior Bryce Holmgren leads the Orange with 16 RBI and is batting .479 in 2018.
- Sophomore pitcher Alexa Romero is 7-3 with a 1.22 ERA and 88 strikeouts. She threw a perfect game against Sacrament State on Feb. 17.
- Head coach Mike Bosch holds a 3-0 all-time record against Virginia Tech.
- Senior Sammy Fernandez enters the weekend with 189 career hits, which is 17 shy of tying the program record of 206, held by Tanya Rose.
Scouting the Hokies
- Virginia Tech beat Iowa State, 6-4, on Mar. 4, but dropped a pair of games to Ball State (4-3) and UCF (1-0) on Mar. 6.
- Emma Strouth leads the Hokies with a .344 batting average and a team-high 11 RBI and Olivia Lattin hits .339 with five doubles, seven RBI and nine runs.
- Jordan Dail and Carrie Eberle lead the Hokies in the circle. Dail is 4-3 with a 1.52 ERA and a team-high 60 strikeouts. Eberle is 3-4 with a team-best 1.11 ERA and 44 strikeouts. Keely Rochard has made seven starts on the season and has a 3-2 record with a 3.42 ERA and 30 strikeouts.
- Scot Thomas is in his 23rd season as head coach at Virginia Tech. Thomas has led the Hokies to two ACC titles and eight NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Women's College World Series in 2008.
On the Orange Horizon
Syracuse travels to Elon for a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, Mar. 14 at 6 p.m.
