NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Senior Sammy Fernandez went 2-for-3 with a walk and two stolen bases to lead Syracuse (18-15, 4-8 ACC) in a 2-1 loss to Notre Dame (24-12, 8-4 ACC) Saturday afternoon in game one of a three-game series. Abby Sweet drove in the game-winning run for the Fighting Irish in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single.

The two schools will conclude the series Sunday morning with a doubleheader starting at 10:30 a.m.

Sophomore Alexa Romero dropped to 12-9 after pitching her 12th complete game of the season. She gave up two runs on two hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.

Junior Hannah Dossett drove in the lone Orange run with a pinch-hit RBI double and freshman Neli Casares-Maher finished 1-for-2 with a run and a walk.

Alexis Holloway went the distance for Notre Dame. She surrendered one run on six hits with four walks and six strikeouts. Katie Marino went 1-for-2 with a solo homerun, two runs and a walk.

Game Summary
Marino's solo homer in the fourth gave Notre Dame a 1-0 lead in the fourth.

'Cuse rallied in the top of the sixth to even the game back up. Casares-Maher hit a leadoff single through the left side and Dossett drove her in with a double and advanced the third on the throw home. Holloway forced a foul-out and a groundout to keep the game tied at one.

A two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth game the Fighting Irish their game-winning run. Marino walked, stole second and came home on Sweet's single.

Junior Bryce Holmgren reached base in the seventh with a one-out single, but 'Cuse was unable to capitalize.

Of Note
The Orange out-hit Notre Dame 6-2 and left 10 runners on base.

Fernandez is two hits away from becoming the program's all-time leader in base hits.

'Cuse put a runner on third base in three of the first four innings, but failed to produce at the plate.
