ATLANTA – Ninth-seeded Syracuse looks for its first-ever win at the ACC Championship when it takes on eighth-seeded Louisville on Wednesday, May 9 at 1 p.m. in the first round. The winner will face top-seeded Florida State on Thursday at 11 a.m.
The game will be televised live on RSN and will be streamed on WatchESPN. Live stats can be found on cuse.com
For Starters
- Syracuse enters the ACC Championship playing its best softball of the season. The Orange have won 11 of their last 12 games and are 30-19 overall with a 9-12 mark in conference play.
- 'Cuse defeated Colgate, 2-0, on May 2 to eclipse 30 wins for the seventh time in program history. Syracuse produces back-to-back 30-win seasons for the first time since the 2011 and 2012 campaigns.
- Senior Sammy Fernandez is the program's all-time leader in hits (219), multi-hit games (66), at-bats (679) and is tied for first in triples (12).
- Junior Bryce Holmgren finished the regular season with a .412 batting average and a .547 on-base percentage which both lead the ACC.
- Sophomore Alexa Romero concluded the regular season with 260 strikeouts and 10.9 strikeouts per seven innings. Both totals lead the ACC and rank in the top-10 nationally. She's thrown a perfect game and two additional no-hitters in 2018.
- Junior Alicia Hansen became the first Orange softball player to hit six triples in a single season. She leads the ACC in three-baggers and ranks eighth nationally.
- Senior AnnaMarie Gatti has found her form late in the season as well. Gatti's last eight decisions have been wins and she has thrown a complete game in five of her last seven outings. She's exceled at Skytop Softball Stadium and produced three consecutive home complete game shutout victories over NC State, North Carolina and Colgate to cap off her home collegiate career.
- Syracuse and Louisville split a doubleheader at Skytop Softball Stadium on Apr. 13. Freshman Lailoni Mayfield delivered a walk-off single to lead the Orange to a 4-3 win. 'Cuse met the Cardinals in the 2016 ACC tournament and suffered a 1-0 setback.
Orange at the ACC Championship
- 'Cuse reaches its fourth ACC Championship since joining the league in 2014. 2015 is the only season in which the Orange did not qualify for the field.
- Syracuse has 11 different players on the roster that have made at least one appearance in the ACC Championship. Gatti, Fernandez, senior Rachel Burkhardt, Hansen and junior Hannah Dossett have all played in two tournament games.
- Gatti is the only pitcher to start two games for the Orange at the ACC Championship. In a 1-0 loss to Louisville in 2016, Gatti surrendered five hits and allowed an unearned run. She also picked up a loss last season in an 8-4 setback to North Carolina.
- Seniors Jessica Heese and Faith Cain each turned in impressive performances in the loss to North Carolina in 2017. Heese went 1-for-1 with two walks and two runs and Cain finished 2-for-3 with a solo homerun.
- Holmgren and Hansen are the only other two active players that have a base hit at the ACC Championship, both of which were doubles against North Carolina.
