LONDON – Syracuse junior Georgia Allen's ticket to the FIFA U20 Women's World Cup is officially punched.
England Women's National U20 Team head coach Mo Marley announced the 21-player squad on Monday morning, tabbing the Syracuse standout to represent her home country at the World Cup on Aug. 5-24 in the Brittany region of France.
"Making this team has been a dream of mine since I was 6 years old" Allen said. "I have worked and strived for this moment for so long, and I appreciate the honor of playing for the Young Lionesses."
Allen, who started 10 of Syracuse's 18 matches last season and led all Orange midfielders with four points, is a familiar face on the Young Lionesses squad, first competing for England in 2011 as part of the U15 team. She made her international debut in 2012 against the Republic of Ireland at St. George's Park.
In 2017, the midfielder participated in the UEFA Women's U19 European Championship, tallying a pair of goals in England's 2-0 victory over Italy in the group stage.
England, drawn in Group B, is set to make its fifth U20 World Cup appearance. The squad opens the tournament against North Korea on Sunday, Aug. 5, before squaring off against Brazil on Aug. 8 and Mexico on Aug. 12.
"We're a united team with clear expectations and standards," Allen said. "We'll work hard for each other to deliver on the biggest stage. We'll take it day-by-day and game-by-game and have some fun along the way."
The Orange report to campus for the start of preseason on Aug. 1, opening the 2018 regular season against La Salle at 6 p.m., Aug. 16 at SU Soccer Stadium.
