
Orange Well Represented in FIBA U20 Women’s European Championship

Sopron, Hungary – Four Syracuse women's basketball players are competing on the world stage this week in Sopron, Hungary, at the FIBA U20 Women's European Championship. Maeva Djaldi Tabdi, Marie-Paule Foppossi and Kadiatou Sissoko are playing for their home country of France while Digna Strautmane is leading the Latvian squad. France is in Group B while Latvia is playing in Group C during the group phase of competition.
In Latvia's first game, Strautmane tallied a double double with 12 points and 13 rebounds in a 70-62 win over Poland. Eleven of her 13 rebounds were on the defensive side of the court and she blocked a game-high five shots.
In Sunday's 66-51 loss to host country Hungary, Strautmane tallied 13 points and seven rebounds for Latvia. Monday the Latvian squad was back in action where Strautmane logged her second double-double of the tournament with 13 points and 11 rebounds as she led Latvia past Croatia 71-60.
France cruised to an easy win routing Sweden 74-36 in its first game of group play on Saturday. Foppossi led the team with 13 points and 11 rebounds while Sissoko added 11 points and eight rebounds in 20 minutes of action. Djaldi Tabdi chipped in eight points and seven rebounds in the win.
The French suffered a 76-69 setback in the second game with Italy taking the win. The Orange trio combined for 12 points and nine rebounds in the loss.
France returns to action at 2:15 p.m. EST (20:15 GMT +2) when it faces Slovakia.
