Syracuse University's 12th-ranked field hockey team will face off against No. 4 Duke (4-2) at J.S. Coyne Stadium Friday at 4 p.m. The Orange (3-2, 0-1 ACC). Fans are encouraged to wear pink to support breast cancer awareness as the Orange will "Stick it to Cancer" at this weekend's games.
"We are working on ourselves and getting better," head coach Ange Bradley said. "We're not really in a position to be concerned about anybody else but ourselves and we just have to keep getting better at the things we do."Â
Â
Syracuse looks to rebound from back-to-back losses to top 10 teams last week. The Orange took then No. 8 Virginia to double overtime to open Atlantic Coast Conference play last Friday but the Cavaliers scored the game-winner with under seven minutes to play sending 'Cuse home with a 2-1 loss in their ACC debut. Syracuse returned to action to host defending national champion UConn on Sunday. Despite an almost even box score which included six shots apiece and a 4-2 Husky advantage on corners, Connecticut downed 'Cuse 3-0 for the Orange first home loss of 2018,
Â
The Blue Devils enter this weekend fresh off a victory over No. 5 Penn State last Sunday. Duke jumped to No. 4 in this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches Poll after dismantling the Nittany Lions 4-1. It was Duke's third game against a top-10 opponent and snapped a two-game losing streak for the Blue Devils.
Â
The two met for the first time in 2013; Syracuse's first year in the ACC. The series began with an exciting double overtime game in Durham, N.C., with 'Cuse ultimately winning 2-1. Five years and five meetings later, Syracuse has remained undefeated against Duke, with their largest margin of victory being in 2016 when they beat the Blue Devils 5-1 at home.
