OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Syracuse senior goalkeeper Hendrik Hilpert has been recognized for his success on and off the pitch as he is one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award in collegiate soccer. The award recognizes student-athletes for notable achievements in community, classroom, character and competition.
Â
Hilpert has started all but one match in goal for the Orange since midway through his freshman season. He currently ranks fourth on Syracuse's career leader list for wins (31) and shutouts (20). Hilpert earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors in 2017 after shutting out No. 1 Wake Forest with a career-high nine saves.
Â
In his rookie campaign, Hilpert was named to College Soccer News' All-Freshman Second Team when he ranked 27th nationally in GAA. In addition, he was named to the ACC All-Tournament Team after helping the Orange to their first ACC title. He allowed just two goals in four matches in the NCAA Tournament as Syracuse advanced to the College Cup for the first time in program history.
Â
Hilpert has also been honored for his work in the classroom. He earned CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team honors last season after earning third-team accolades as a sophomore. The Eiterfeld, Germany native is a two-time member of the ACC All-Academic Team. He received the 2017 Chancellor's Student-Athlete award and earned Syracuse's Martin J. Whitman School of Management Freshman of the Year Award. Hilpert, a double major in finance and economics, has been on the Dean's List every semester.
Â
The list of candidates will be narrowed down to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male and one female candidate.
Â
Hilpert and the Orange return to action on Friday, Sept. 21 when they host No. 22 Virginia at 7 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium. Admission and parking are free.
