GREENSBORO, N.C. – First-team Google Cloud Academic All-American Hendrik Hilpert highlights a group of five members of the Orange named to the All-ACC Men's Soccer Academic Team. Hilpert was joined by senior Jonathan Hagman, junior Massimo Ferrin, sophomore Tajon Buchanan and freshman Ryan Raposo. Syracuse's five selection were the second-highest total for any school in the league.
Â
Hilpert, who is making his third appearance on the All-ACC Academic Team, adds the honor to a long list of accomplishments for his work in the classroom. He earned a spot on the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America First Team, becoming just the third Syracuse student-athlete and first men's soccer player to earn Academic All-America honors three times. Hilpert was voted to the Academic All-America Second Team last season and was a third-team selection as a sophomore. He is a double major in finance and economics.
Â
On the field, Hilpert is one of the most successful goalkeepers in program history. He ended his career ranked fourth in career wins (35) and fourth in career shutouts (23). Hilpert was named the United Soccer Coaches Player of the Week and ACC Defensive Player of the Week after he made five saves in a 2-0 win against No. 1 Wake Forest.
Â
Hagman is also making his third appearance on the All-ACC Academic Team. The finance major is a two-time Google Cloud Academic All-District selection and three-time ACC Honor Roll honor roll honoree. Hagman tied for fifth on the team in goals in 2018. He recorded his first career hat trick in Syracuse's win at Akron.
Â
Ferrin registered 12 points in his first season with the Orange after transferring from UAB. He ranked third on the squad in points and tied for second in goals (5). Ferrin recorded five points in Syracuse's win against Ohio State with two goals and one assist.
Â
Buchanan, a health and physical education major, had a breakout season in 2018. He led the team in points (20) and goals (8) with career highs in both categories. Buchanan scored multiple goals in three matches, including a career-high three in Syracuse's win against St. Bonaventure. He signed a Generation adidas contract after the season and was the ninth overall pick in the 2019 in the MLS SuperDraft by the New England Revolution.
Â
Raposo made major contributions in his rookie campaign. He led Syracuse in assists with seven and ranked second in points with 15. In addition, he tied for third in goals (4). His seven assists tie him for the fourth-highest total for an Orange freshman in program history. Raposo recorded at least one point in eight matches, including a career-high three points in Syracuse's win at Cornell. He was selected to the ACC All-Freshman Team, TopDrawerSoccer.com's Freshmen Best XI and College Soccer News' All-Freshman Third Team.
Â
The group of All-ACC Academic Team members helped the men's soccer squad record the highest GPA for the fall semester for any men's team in the Athletic Department.
